Mincetur puts FTA negotiations on the agenda with five more countries for 2024

Next year, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) will continue negotiating trade agreements with at least eight countries to strengthen the Peruvian export market.
One of the negotiations that are pending corresponds to China, a nation with which they are preparing a modernization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which we have had in force since 2010.
“Modernization incorporates green economy issues, digital economy and customs issues. “We are in the fifth round of negotiations,” the minister, Juan Carlos Mathews, commented to RPP.
“Hong Kong is a triangulation market mainly to the Asian market and although there are sensitivities in some sectors such as textiles and footwear, we are obviously taking precautions so that there is no impact, it is not an industrial country, there will not be an impact. because they are going to sell us textiles and compete as some sectors think,” he explained.
For the second half of next year, it is also expected to close the negotiation of the FTA with India since "there has already been important progress." Foreign trade negotiations with countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Morocco, the Dominican Republic and the United Arab Emirates are also pending for 2024.

How are exports going?
Despite the global slowdown and the impact of the El Niño Phenomenon on fishing and agriculture, Mincetur affirms that some positive results are still observed for Peruvian exports.
“It is a very strong sector due to the particular conditions that Peru has and due to important investments that the private sector has made in various areas that have made us world leaders in several categories. This year there are items that continue to break records such as avocados, we are number two in the world as suppliers and in Europe it continues to grow,” said the head of Mincetur.
The minister recalled that among the agricultural export products that have been affected are mangoes and asparagus, but "there continues to be a positive response from that sector, the climate, soil and location conditions play favorably for the country."
Mathews added that they are also seeking to promote some considerations for the agricultural sector in, for example, working conditions.
