Lima, November 28, 2023. The president of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), Abraham Chahuan, pointed out that our country has the presence of the largest mining companies in the world, which intend to invest and thus enhance the development.
"Today, the largest mining companies on the planet are installed in Peru and they are all eager to invest," he declared in the context of the 80th anniversary of the IIMP.
Likewise, he added that as a country we must provide the appropriate conditions to promote this industry, which is an engine of development and not only in the economic aspect, but also has an impact on raising the Human Development Index (HDI) in the mining regions. .
“As Peruvians, we need to generate the necessary legal, social and other conditions for this investment to be executed and we can carry out the portfolio of projects for US$53 thousand and more millions of projects that exist,” he said.
In that sense, he also said that social conflicts are not the best climate for investment and even generate fear mainly in local businessmen, not foreigners.
"Local investment has been restricted because people are afraid to make investments in an environment that is not completely stable," he said.
As a representative of the IIMP, he explained that although the State has an important role in promoting mining investments and improving the quality of life of the population; The Institute has contributed, since its founding in 1943, to the promotion of mining investment as one of the pillars to sustain the country's economy and achieve its escape from underdevelopment.
"The level of institutionality is very solid. There are 80 years focused on the promotion of mining and its positive effects in the regions of the country. Also on strengthening the relationship with young people on educational issues, on the issue of understanding really that mining is the engine of the national economy," he highlighted.
In line with this, the president of the Institute emphasized the importance of disseminating the benefits of mining to children, young people and adults, so that the population recognizes that it truly generates a great positive impact on employment, infrastructure, opportunities for the young, etc. and opportunities would expand with the execution of projects in the portfolio.
